The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo hits the Theatres.

As a great lover and appreciator of the novels I was very excited to find out they were making a film of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. There was a Swedish film made first but I found it very slow and hard to watch. The books were so unique that any film made about them would be a huge challenge.

The American film by David Fincher have been getting mixed reviews. Many find it to be too graphic and dark and leave no room for more of the human dimensions that author Stieg Larsson portays in the books.

The main character Lisbeth Salander is a dark character with a rough childhood and is continuously confronted by forces that give a tough exterior. But she also is just a human in a story that is bigger than just that part of her. She has a love relationship with other main character Mikael Blomkvist where you can see there is potential for change in her.

It's certainly not an easy feat to accomplish, but those who love the books are very skeptical of any cinematic interpretation.

Melanie Amaro: X Factor Winner

The winner of Fox's show X Factor been announced: Melanie Amaro.  Amaro, 19, was one of the 100,000 people who auditioned for the show and being the winner will have a $5 million contract to display her future musical endeavors.  The record label is host Simon Cowell's own label, SyCo.  X factor is yet another reality musical competition show that did very well this year and will follow again with a second season in 2012.  Cowell seems to be no a role with his seemingly endless shows of this nature and now is basically creating musical sensations from scratch.  These shows basically make stars out of the audition process themselves and by the time they win they've already been exposed to the 12 million viewers that have been watching them.

Melanie Amaro was extremely happy and emotional when accepting her win.

Howard Stern To Host America's Got Talent

Reality TV show America's Got Talent is gaining a new host this season: Howard Stern.  Simon Cowell, producer and creator of the show, says Stern is his top choice for a judge.  America's Got Talent is a reality show where performers compete for $1 million.  Stern's explicit personality will perhaps be a great addition to the show which usually has at least one very blunt judge.  The show will move to New York where Stern can still do his daily Howard Stern Show on Sirius Radio.  The show is destined to be more shocking and awkward
with Stern on the team, considering his track record of blunt and and often rude observations and interviews.

Kardashians Top Ten Fascinating People?

Tonight Barbara Walters announced her idea of 2011's top fascinating people.  On the list were names like Steve Jobs, Donald Trump, and the Kardashians.  The Kardashians seemed to be a bit of an odd name because they are mostly known for their appearances in reality TV and other superficial entertainment media.  But when thought about, the family is certainly unique in many ways, and ultimately, yes, fascinating.  Each of the girls in the family has their own following individual stories and they seem to maintain a presence in the media at all times and over a long period of time.  Regardless, Walters put them in her top 10.

Lohan in Playboy

This month, Lindsay Lohan, the infamous and mischievous Hollywood star, is posing nude in Playboy magazine. Playboy has announced their newsstand released, but has already released the pictures on the Internet as of yesterday. The pictures are said to be of a Marilyn Monroe-like theme, set in the 1950's. Logan says about the shoot, "sex and sexuality are part of nature, and I go along with nature." Lohan had had a rough year with charges against and jail time. It seems like an extreme move to pose in Playboy after such a year, but maybe she needs it to regain some momentum in the public eye.

Alex Baldwin gets scolded for playing Words With Friends

Actor Alex Baldwin got kicked off an American Airlines flight on Tuesday for refusal to turn off his cell phone.  Baldwin was reportedly playing the well known game Words With Friends, and when asked several times by a flight attendant, he continued to refuse to stop.  Later that day, Baldwin tweeted, "Flight attendant on American reamed me out 4 playing WORDS W FRIENDS while we sat at the gate, not moving."   It appears that even celebrities are not exempt from simple airline procedures.  Maybe its a sign of the times that cell phones and computers are becoming more important to our lives, or maybe its just old-fashion fame getting to one's head.  Probably the latter.  Although I can understand his frustration.   They should at least explain why it is a problem to use cell phones.  If its the Wi-Fi or 3g disruption, then why can't one play Words with Friends on "Airplane Mode," where you are just using it like an Ipod Touch.  The argument seems crazy when it comes down to a debate over playing a game like Words With Friends...  It would at least put me at ease if they explained the reason behind it.

Breaking Dawn is Breaking Hearts

Reviewers and movie critics are saying that the Twilight Saga has come to a rather unsatisfying end. What was first a great homage to the novels and good entertaint has ended with a dull, lifeless conclusion in "Breaking Dawn." One of the reasons it fell short was that it ceased to have the "indie" edge that the first three had. Maybe after all the publicity it has received, it's hard to capture the same feel that made it popular is the first place. Regardless of the reason, viewers and critics are agreeing it fell short of expectations.

Elisabeth Hasselbeck argues with Bill Maher on The View

On Tuesday, Bill Maher made an appearance on The View but was given a surprising inquisition by host Elisabeth Hasselbeck.  Maher, who was initially on the show to promote his new book, was interrupted by Hassellbeck to talk about a joke he had made on his HBO show where he sarcastically mentioned that after Lara Logan's return to the US after her sexual assault in Egypt, Elisabeth Hasselbeck should be sent in her place.  Hasselbeck asked Maher why he said that, and he responded it was in the name of comedy, after which Hasselbeck said "thanks for being the hero."  There was a certain awkwardness to the exchange.  The joke was certainly extreme, but Hasselbeck should probably understand that Maher is known for his edgy humor.
